John Lewis are by far one of the best advertisers that get the emotion out of their audience, especially around a special time like Christmas. They somehow are able to grasp the audience like no other brand and indulge them in the story. Of course they tend to use children as they are the ones who tend to forget about what Christmas really means and what it should represent. In this particular advert I believe the contrast between the old man and the young girl shows that just because you are different doesn't mean gifts/presents have to be different too. In this case the girl sends a telescope to the man to show that he isn't alone, and all the old man really wants is to know someone acknowledges his presence on the moon.
